September Support Us

September is a blur of #backtoschool we wanted to share Jack*’s story about overcoming anxiety about going back to school.

Jack is a young person with Autism and was referred to Motiv8 for one-to-one support as he was not in education from the amount of emotional stress school caused him. Yet due to pressures at home, neither of Jack’s parents were able to home school him and Jack was often unable to leave the house due to anxiety and sensory overload.

During the summer, our Motiv8 support worker started one-to-one mentoring sessions with Jack and focused on creating pieces of work with him: likes and dislikes, strengths and struggles, and what he would ideally like from school. Through this specialist work, Jack’s support worker helped to build his confidence and shared coping techniques with his mum to enable her to support Jack day-to-day.

Jack’s support worker also spent a lot of time communicating with the Hampshire admissions team to find a suitable school place for him. Once a place was found, Motiv8 worked with both him and his mum to help introduce him back into full time education. When Jack started his new school he really enjoyed it.

“I am thankful there was someone there to help in what felt like the darkest times for my family. Sometimes, it felt as though my Motiv8 support worker was the only person in my life who really listened to me and it has made such a difference.” Jack’s Mum.

Please help more vulnerable young people and families like Jack’s get the support they need to live with more confidence and less stressful lives. Please give to the Motiv8 crowdfunding page to help us continue the long-term support needed for people in the community. #igivetomotiv8 for #lifechancesforyoungpeople
