Lady Louisa Portal MBE DL
“I support Motiv8 because I know and understand the extent of the need for the services that Motiv8 provides. Secondly, I know the staff and I have seen first-hand how skilled they are, individually and as a team, in delivering the programs to the young people effectively. Put simply, Motiv8 makes a huge difference to the lives of young people and it does what it says: Motiv8 gives Life Chances to the young people in its care. What could be more important?”
During her year as High Sheriff of Hampshire (2015/16) Louisa chose to take an active role in supporting organisations that work with vulnerable young people, diverting them from crime. In addition to her other duties, she relished her close association with the prison service, particularly her regular meetings and visits to the chaplaincy and education departments in HMP Winchester. It was during this year that she met the team and beneficiaries at Motiv8 and became a passionate supporter.
Louisa’s interest in young people stems from a long association with the Scout movement – she was the local Beaver Scout leader for many years before undertaking further training to be an assistant Explorer Scout leader. She has been President of the Basingstoke West Scout Council since 1999 and is a Deputy President of Hampshire Scouts.
Previously manager/agent for classical singers acting for both British and singers from overseas. Her experience and connections within the music industry ensured she was well placed to direct the Hampshire National Singing Competition for 18 years. Louisa has been married to Jonathan for 38 years. They live in Ashe, near Basingstoke, and have 3 sons.
