Jonathan Clark

Chair of Trustees

Jonathan has had a career as an insurance claims professional working at major loss adjusting firms, the Financial Services Compensation Scheme and for Global Reinsurer SCOR.

He has dealt with claims and the resolution of major disasters in more than 60 countries and has worked with many of the world’s largest corporations on their claims programmes. He has designed and implemented claims compensation schemes for governmental bodies and major corporations. His focus has been on making sure that businesses and communities recover as rapidly and effectively as possible after disaster.

He is past President and Treasurer of the Chartered Insurance Institute where he has also been the Interim CEO. He has been an active lecturer and trainer with a focus on disaster management, customer service and the development of future talent. He is a consultant to a US based NGO and a trustee of several charities with a focus on serving the local community. These include being Treasurer of Oxmarket Centre of Arts, Chair of Chichester Canal Trading and trustee of Tuppeny Barn. Jonathan holds degrees in Biochemistry and Biochemical Engineering and is an active sailor.

Steve Dimon

BSc in Computer Science; passionate about sport, especially cycling. Steve runs a local IT support company specialising in security & business continuity. Steve brings a wealth of experience in IT and in business development, brand building and promotion.

Steve Miller

Steve has spent the past 27 years working in engineering and program/change management within the technology sector, leading teams of up to 250+ people as part of large scale deployment projects across the world. Steve recently left the corporate world to set up his own business management consultancy company.

Professor Mark Button

Chair of the Resources Sub Group

Professor Mark Button is Reader and Director of the Centre for Counter Fraud at the University of Portsmouth. Mark teaches on various courses within the Institute of Criminal Justice Studies and has written several publications based on this area. Mark was Chair of the Motiv8 Trustee board from May 2002 to November 2017.

Tim Caley

Chair of Service Delivery Sub Group

“I’m a member of the Motiv8 Trustees because I’ve always passionately believed that youth work supports young people and helps change their lives.”

Tim has had a career in youth work and services to young people for over 40 years, beginning in a Sheffield youth club, a youth officer in Reading, Portsmouth, head of the local authority youth services in Hampshire and West Sussex, an Ofsted inspector and, finally, consultant and adviser.

In 2012, Tim worked as a temporary project officer for Motiv8 and this was where he first experienced the high quality of the organisation’s work. Subsequently, Tim joined the Board of Trustees (in 2013) and served for three years, resigning to concentrate on writing a book. This was published in February 2019 and entitled “Keeping Them off the Streets – a youth work story.”

Returning as a Trustee in 2020, Tim is particularly interested in fostering the ‘links’ between field work staff and the Board and advising on youth work quality, evaluation and impact

Richard John

Safeguarding Trustee

“I have been a supporter of Motiv8 for a number of years, on retirement I wanted to go a step further and add value and support to all Motiv8 do in making a positive difference to young people’s lives”

Richard is currently a lecturer at the University of Portsmouth teaching a variety courses in criminology, criminal Justice and research methods at both Post and Under -graduate level. Prior to this, Richard was a lecturer at Solent University within the Law and Criminology department for 3 years.

Richard is the current Chair of the Portsmouth Commission Safeguarding Board for the Portsmouth Catholic Diocese and was the Chair for the Portsmouth Local Safeguarding Children Board and interim Chair for the Portsmouth Adult Safeguarding Board, responsible for the independent scrutiny and review of child and Adult safeguarding in Portsmouth.

Richard was a former senior police officer with both operational and strategic executive experience in a variety of roles that included head of public protection (adult and children) and strategic partnerships for Hampshire Constabulary. Richard has delivered safeguarding management training to schools, commercial sector and the charity sector. Richard’s research interests include safeguarding (children and adults), stop and search, racial justice and drugs.

Beverly Coghlan

“I support Motiv8 because I believe that all children and young people should have an equal start in life, with access to good education, well-being support and life-enhancing activities. Motiv8 steps in when
families and local services are unable to help and I am pleased to be able to contribute to its work”

Beverly is a trauma therapist, specialising in developmental trauma. This has led her to see first hand the devastating consequences of individuals who have experienced an unhappy, chaotic or abusive childhood. Beverly has delivered in this field for over a decade and is qualified in Psychological Intervention and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. Beverly has joined the Motiv8 Trustee Board in 2023.

Caroline Poppleton

“I am keen to help young people reach their potential, despite the challenges they may face along the way.”

Caroline currently works in Insurance services and has has 28 years experience in the sales and financial services sector. Caroline has joined the Motiv8 Trustee Board in 2023.
